At GameSpot, I discovered my zone of genius: efficiency. I get excited designing production and post-production processes that make an impact on our organizational output. For instance, in 2018, long-form videos seemed impossible to edit within the workweek, so I created a collaborative post-production workflow that reduced lead times from 7-day cycles to 3-day cycles. As a result, my output grew 96%, editing 63 videos in 2021. Editing a series of tutorials, my name appeared in a video game! In the credits of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.* For the Evolution Championship Series, I filmed the biggest competitive gaming event in the world and edited the "moments montage" that inspired an entire gaming subculture. * For Twitch, I recruited my friends to star in a hype video. Sidenote: we were told to calm down at a StarCraft 2 tournament because we were too hyped.

It was a privilege to lead 1UP's video team. Visionaries in the early internet video content space, 1UP's video team pioneered a weekly long-form show about games. We achieved regular success on iTunes, landing in their top 10 games podcast. The 1UP Show wasn't just a medium for informational content; it captured the zeitgeist and culture of gaming. It's a small miracle that we consistently delivered a popular 30+ min show without the luxury of fast internet, fast digital acquisition (the days of analog tape), and fast rendering speeds. Sheeeshhh.

I was promoted from an individual contributor to a senior member building and leading a new team and website dedicated to help content. At that time, I was a young manager without any managerial experience. Fortunately for me, the learning process was made smoother, thanks to the sheer brilliance of my direct reports. They were the superstars that built a burgeoning website into something massive. Increased average pageviews from 2K to 350K pageviews. Unique views jumped from 0 to 1MM uniques in the first year after launch. Consistent top placing on Google search rank. We sacrificed many weekends and nights together, making help content right before every major game launch. And I must say, the team demonstrated grit, dedication, and perseverance.

Rejoice! I was promoted from intern to full-time staff. Senpai noticed me. I wrote many, many help articles and strategy guides while learning the importance of SEO-driven best practices. Plus, I had the honor to collaborate cross-functionally with brands in the 1UP network, including Electronic Gaming Monthly, a magazine that I read incessantly when I was a kid. (I remember begging my mom to buy me the first issue of EGM at KB Toys.) I was stoked to see my name in the review byline in EGM!

1UP holds a special place in my heart. A new graduate with an econ degree, I thought my career path would lead me to the exciting world of finance. Nope! Instead, serendipity directed me to the world of games media. My writing needed a lot of work. But thanks to the support from my colleagues, I slowly--painfully--learned the essence of clarity and structure, brevity and grammar. Well, not so much on brevity...Thank you, Sam, for taking a chance on someone who had zero writing and editorial exprience. How did I ever cobble my college essays together without a firm understanding of basic grammar?! Thank you, Che and James, for pushing me beyond my comfort zone. Their guidance and conscious leadership were instrumental in my development, helping increase not only my technical skills but also my confidence.
