I began working at BBW around Halloween in 2012. This was my first experience in retail and differed from my previous experience in food services. However, the most important commonality was the importance of customer service: uncovering the needs of the customer and doing what is possible to find what they need. Product knowledge and passion are incredibly important in serving customers effectively at BBW. As a sales leader, I have developed my mathematical and analytical skills by applying trends and statistics to the everyday running of the store. I have also learned to coach co-workers in the moment, as well as setting longer-term goals and following up to improve performance.

I have been tutoring my peers since I entered high school, particularly in math. However, since returning to Thunder Bay from teaching full time in England, I have done freelance tutoring primarily in English around town.

After graduating from Lakehead University in spring 2014, I traveled to England to teach at Newmarket Academy in Suffolk, England. It was an immense challenge at first, but I was determined to stick it out and adjust to a very different system of education than I was used to here in Ontario. Newmarket Academy tested and taught me a variety of classroom management skills in addition to the necessary administrative work a new teacher must learn. I became the go-to person in the English department for interactive multi-media lessons. I created lessons and units that were multi-layered and targeted at a range of abilities and spent my time outside of lessons supporting the drama productions and exam preparation.

I was hired by Mcdonalds at age 15 and quickly worked my way up from cashier to swing manager. I was promoted to Swing six months before my 18th birthday (the earliest company policy will allow) and learned a lot in my time there. Mcdonalds was the first place I learned customer service and the importance of doing one's best to ensure every customer leaves happy. It also taught me what to do when that is not happening: how to spot areas for development, problem solve for solutions, and coach team members for improvement. Mcdonalds kept me on my toes and developed my organizational skills, both with time management and physical inventory. Working at Mcdonalds shaped my desire to remain flexible and vigilante at all times in order to aim for my personal best at all times.
