I lead a provincial team responsible for monitoring compliance with Alberta occupational health and safety legislation including determining where employers are effectively implementing the internal responsibility system to ensure worker safety. The priority work includes proactive and reactive work for health care, care workers, and the agriculture industries. Discriminatory action complaints, work refusals, psychological health and safety including harassment and violence are also addressed to ensure a fair system.

My team focused on translating information into actions that help employers and workers prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities. Using user engagement principles, OHS resources were redesigned to better meet client needs. Service delivery was improved through the addition of interactive webinars for priority topic areas, coordinated resource management including online ordering and additional resource evaluation and feedback. Additionally, politically important policy portfolios were lead as a part of the OHS System Review resulting in new OHS legislation for Alberta.

I manage a team of OHS Lead Investigators that complete investigations into serious injuries and fatalities that occur on Alberta work sites.

Work as part of a team of health and safety professionals responsible for leading senior level joint industry-labour-government initiatives to improve occupational health and safety in Alberta. Manage and coordinate projects to implement province-wide strategies and evaluate activities, measures, and results achieved. Identify best/effective practices in managing occupational health and safety and promote best/effective practices that are implemented by internal and external clients.

The Occupational Health & Safety Officer (Officer) conducts work site inspections to ensure employers are reducing work related health and safety, incidents as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), Regulations and Code. Where site conditions are not within regulatory standards, position will work with the employer to upgrade worker protection, and issue compliance orders where necessary. Where there is imminent danger to workers, position is required to stop work processes at the work site and ensure controls are instituted. In cases of persistent contravention, the position will initiate prosecution.Responsibilites Include:- Conduct work site inspections and analysis to ensure that minimum health and safety standards are met and respond to complaints. - Schedule and attend pre-project meetings with owners, prime contractors, employers, etc. - Plan and deliver seminars on the OHS Act, Regulations and Code. - Assist with the development of Workplace Health and Safety Regional Implementation Plans. - Provide health and safety information. - Under the direction of a Lead Investigator, conduct investigations of fatal and serious work site incidents. - Prepare case files in preparation for prosecution. - Provide technical assistance to other staff in the development of safe work procedures and codes of practice. Provide guidance and support to other Officers assigned to inspections. - Provide advice and interpretation in reference to health and safety legislation. Co-operate with Regional staff, and other divisions and departments on province-wide initiatives.

Project assistant for Edmonton area refinery for routine and on demand industrial hygiene services. Areas of responsibility included - developing, executing, interpreting and disseminating the results of a potable water quality survey.- setting up, monitoring of worker exposure, analyzing & reporting on asbestos exposure during removal work- Routine noise monitoring of various process areas, analysis and reporting to ensure hearing protection requirements were adequate
