I'm a professor of communication and director of the gender studies program at the University of Arkansas. I have spent the last two decades researching social movements, civil rights, political feelings & intimacies, and social change-making. I am an award-winning author and the co-host of the popular podcast Lean Back: Critical Feminist Conversations. My books include Prison Power: How Prison Influenced the Movement for Black Liberation and Black Feelings: Race and Affect in the Long Sixties, and I am the editor of #MeToo: A Rhetorical Zeitgeist.In addition, I am a consultant whose strategic comms work focuses on power-sharing, ethical decision-making, democratic deliberation, and expanding political speech footprints of organizations who have a mission focused on the public good.
