While seeking fulltime employment, since I was laid off 24 March 2020 due to the Corona pandemic, I volunteered for The Active Wellbeing Society Birmingham. From 1 afternoon a week to 3 days a week. My first duty was sorting boxes of vegetables, to making food parcels and dignity packs. Decanter and split to share in food parcels bulk items. As my confidence developed I assisted with stacking and sorting bulk items, to free pallets and create more floor space for further bulk deliveries. On occasion I found I self-managed due to gaining experience of the system, by noting when various stock became low for food packers. Duties then involved manual handling/bringing in bulk supplies from the storage area, unpacking, stacking in order for individuals to add a variety of items to make food parcels, splitting and stacking bulk food packaging for recycling, cleaning and tidying work stations. This work requires team involvement and working alone at times.Working with, and learning from many amazing people. This opportunity has been a blessing for me while unemployed.

My main responsibilities includes managing the liaison with Birmingham City Council officers and councillors, key stakeholders, retailers and residents to manage stakeholder expectations and providing regular consultation. This includes working with the project teams to adapt the construction programme where possible in order to minimise risks to the overall time scale. During the Birmingham City Centre Metro extension, I worked together with Centro (the owner) and Metro (the operator) to organise and manage community engagement events and make the general public/local communities aware of the upcoming work and any likely impact this would have on them. Supporting placement opportunities for local students and site visits for interested third parties, I also assisted in producing monthly bulletins for over 500 stakeholders, including councillors. I also identified positive news stories and collated individual/team best practice to produce a project memoire. My main responsibilities included liaising with key stakeholders, Birmingham City Council, Network Rail, Canal and River Trust and Environment Agency, as well as liaising with the general public, residents, businesses, diverse community groups, education establishments and places of worship. Keeping stakeholders informed in a timely manner of forthcoming works, I assessed any likely areas of conflict to take the necessary steps in order to minimise disruption and complaints. As the first port of call for enquiries, compliments and complaints, I resolved issues as and when possible. Transparent in my approach with the aim to work in harmony with affected stakeholders, this allowed me to build rapport and gain trust in order to help deliver project milestones.
