As a writing and reading teacher with more than twenty-four years of experience, I understand how to engage readers and how to target skills for improvement. My teaching experience includes advanced placement courses, second-language learner experiences, special education co-teaching, and extracurricular writing programs. My students have consistently performed above average on standardized testing, regardless of my teaching site. Whether in California, North Carolina, or Connecticut – in the big city or quiet suburbs – my students have performed, due to my deep understanding and incorporation of the Common Core Standards. My curricular knowledge is impressive. I have designed second-language curriculum (for which I received a letter of recognition), implemented Columbia University’s workshop program at the middle school level, written curriculum for both advanced placement literature and advanced placement language courses for high school, and created curriculum for newspaper, yearbook, and debate classes. I have implemented many curricular strategies in the classroom, including Understanding by Design, Universal Design, and International Baccalaureate. I hold a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. I have also delivered professional development to other teachers, including leading a seminar at the College Board Advanced Placement Conference in Texas. My leadership work includes Content Area Specialist for the English department, curriculum team leader for eighth grade ELA, a table leader for College Board, adviser for yearbook and newspaper staffs (for which I was honored), and head of the theater program at the middle school level. My digital experience includes Google Drive and Classroom, the HMH Collections online materials and tools, as well as various online applications including Padlet, Screencastify, and YouTube Creator. I work well with my colleagues and enjoy harnessing the strengths and capabilities of those on my team. My goal is always to empower others so that we can create material that is highly effective and inspiring.
