Having being diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer in May 2017. I was shocked to discover that on average only 5-9% of all funding for breast cancer is allocated to secondary breast cancer. This is despite the fact that there is no cure and it is estimated that 1,000 people die of the disease every month in the UK. As a result of this I took the decision to set up Make 2nds Count. A UK charity located in Scotland dedicated to raising funds to support research, support and education programmes into secondary breast cancer. In 2023 after being a part of the breast cancer community for six years and building relationships with numerous patients we launched our second project 'The House of Hope Scotland'.It is proposed that The House of Hope will be a bespoke wellbeing and holistic centre in Edinburgh specifically designed to support those impacted by breast cancer.The House will be a haven away from the sterile hospital or clinical setting, where those who are impacted by breast cancer can be who they need to be in a safe space, whilst being offered connectivity, support, and friendship.The key to bringing this service to life will not only be sourcing the right building (we have started with this process) but starting from scratch to raise funds. We will aim to help: ➢ Current patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer at any stage➢ Patients who are in remission➢ Family and friends of those impacted by breast cancer➢ The children of those impacted by breast cancerIn a previous life I was an experienced Sales and marketing professional with a demonstrated history of working in the hospitality industry. Skilled in Business development, Negotiation, Sales, Marketing, and Event Management. Strong entrepreneurship professional with a Diploma (Distinction) focused in Communication from Napier University and BA Honours Event Management from Queen Margaret University.Over 12 years professional experience reinforced by accreditations including UK and Scottish event awards.
