The Medical Progressive Care Unit (MPCU) is a 21-bed medicine step-down unit, often handling patients coming from the Medical Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department. Common medical issues on the unit include respiratory failure, DKA, GI bleed, liver failure, and sepsis. Staff are trained to manage a-lines, vasoactive drips, and trached/vented patients. As a Nurse Extern, I am able to assist patients in performing activities of daily living along with collecting lab draws, blood cultures, blood glucose monitoring, tracheostomy care, feeding tube intake monitoring, and wound care.

As a Hospital Assistant (Certified Nursing Assistant) in the Float Pool, I worked heavily in patient care, assisting patients to perform daily activities such as bathing, comfort management, and eating, all while monitoring patient safety throughout tasks. I worked closely alongside RNs to ensure that patient needs are taken care of and reported changes in a patient's condition. I was also trained to work as a Patient Services Specialist (PSS), the unit secretary who takes incoming unit phone calls, answers call lights, delegates tasks to different entities within the hospital, and coordinates unit work flow alongside the charge nurse. Specifically in the Float Pool, I also transported patients between units and was trained as a part of the Lift Team, a designated group of CNAs whose job is to go from floor to floor assisting staff to turn or move patients in and out of bed safely.

Took on role of Lead Office Assistant as of September 2018. The Lead Office Assistant has the responsibility of managing the other Office Assistants, reconciling budgets, and designing/updating our program website.As an Office Assistant (OA), it is our responsibility to be responsive, detail-oriented, and compassionate towards all and staff members. We not only manage the Learning Assistance Programs (LAP) front desk, but assist students in finding what specific help they may need from our services, which include: Peer Tutoring, Facilitated Study Groups, Language Conversation Groups, Individual Consultations, and Learning Strategy Workshops. Additionally, we trouble-shoot through technical issues on our tutoring website, answer phone calls, create marketing materials, and assist the LAP staff members in projects.

Courses:-Genetics of Disease (UCOR 1800): Basic sciences course intended for non-science majors. The laboratory component of this class included basic compound microscope handling and usage, how to set-up a scientific experiment, how to represent data, and how to make biological sketches.-Organic Chemistry Laboratory: Techniques (CHEM 2501): This is a complementary lab course for the first course of organic chemistry. This lab is focused around obtaining basic chemistry lab techniques such as: thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, recrystallization, extraction, and distillation.-Evolution (BIOL 3500)-Developmental Biology/Embryology (BIOL 3300)

Volunteer at Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) under the Portman Research Group. Part the Developmental Therapeutics department at SCRI, the goal of the Portman Research Group is to bank DNA from children affected by Kawasaki's Disease, the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. This research group also looks into the genetic factors of Kawasaki's Disease and possible alternative treatments for children who do not initially respond to treatment. As a volunteer I read through patient records, performed data entry, and organized patient files.

As an intern, I learned the basic operations of a non-profit organization, especially fundraising and marketing strategies. Additionally, I performed donation logging, data entry, mailing tasks, and created several online and paper marketing/advertisement flyers.
