Responsible for fulfilling the teacher’s education plans & providing classroom management for 25-35 children, ages 5-12. As an emergency certified substitute, I was a full time fifth grade teacher for 2 years at Minors Lane Elementary. As such, I fulfilled all the teaching requirements from the school, district and state. I also do many long-term jobs in various educational positions.

As managing editor of the daily newspaper, I was responsible for managing a staff of more than 35 employees, overseeing daily operations and long-term planning for the newspaper, including budgeting and building community relationships. In my time at the paper, both readership and advertising revenue increased and the paper earned the coveted title "Newspaper of the Year" awarded by the Associated Press.

Assist in directing breaking news coverage, responsible for assigning and editing stories by 15 staff reporters and correspondents for three regional editions each day, preparing daily news budgets, assisting with reporter hiring and evaluations and occasionally writing project stories. As Special Projects Committee Chair, a committee I proposed and developed in November 1999, I work with more than 40 staff reporters, correspondents, photographers, graphic artists and designers to develop in-depth project stories for all editions and special sections. Duties include editing the project stories and developing a thought-provoking news package.

Duties include directing breaking news coverage and daily coverage by reporters at five bureaus, making story and photo assignments, editing local copy, paginating (including A1) as needed and strategy planning for long-term goals of the newspaper.

Responsible for covering crime & courts and uncovering government corruption, as well as enterprising in-depth series and participating in long-term staff projects.Nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for a series on government corruption in South Louisiana.

Responsible for covering social services, cops and general assignment stories, as well as coordinating quarterly investigative staff projects. As a part-time copy editor, responsibilities included editing copy, writing headlines and cutlines and designing pages.

Responsible for overseeing a staff of 25, directing all news and photo coverage, hiring, training and evaluations, staff development, writing editorials and planning the long-term goals of the newspaper.

Duties include covering city and county government, education, cops and courts, writing a weekly column, feature stories and taking photos as needed.
