During my January holidays of the year 2015, the second year of my LLB degree, I committed to vacation work at Henk Scheepers Incorporated in Vanderbijlpark for a period between 5 January - 30 January.I was exposed to many different aspects of the administrative prospect as well as the legal prospect of the firm which specializes in litigation, insolvencies, deceased estates, conveyancing, recoveries, and collections as well as tax law. I worked mostly with School fees and the collection of school fees. I mostly did clerk work which included Letter of Demand, Warrant, Summons, Affidavits, Default Judgments, and financial accounts. During this working period, I was also introduced to Lexpro and tracing companies used by the firm.The attorney Henk Scheepers allowed me to shadow him in every aspect of his career, including sitting in on all his court session during this period as well as any consultation with a client, advocates, corresponding attorneys, and magistrates relevant to any of our cases. Our cases took place in the civil court as well as the motion court and therefore I became familiar with these courts.I assisted clerks in filling administration at court and sat in on consultations with the defendants. During this period the clerks assisted me in learning all the pre-trial steps that are essential for any law firm.During this short period, I have grown a lot as a law student and have a much better understanding of the legal process which leads to a court trial.
