At STPI I’ve conducted research in a number of areas including biosafety and biosecurity, pandemic preparedness, and emerging technologies.

Involved in strategic communications efforts at the university, working to highlight GW’s growing research portfolio.• Regularly analyzed science policies, trends and research-related issues as part of a strategic planning process I developed for GW’s cross-disciplinary research initiatives• Led teams of writers, graphic designers, web developers and video producers to create stories, multimedia content, environmental graphics and websites highlighting GW research efforts • Coordinated all aspects of the ScienceWriters 2018 conference, which brought over 800 attendees to campus for 4 days of professional development, scientific briefings and networking opportunities• Managed execution of strategic communications plans for university-wide research initiatives in the areas of autism, computational biology, sustainability and women’s issues

As a public affairs specialist at NSF I served as the media contact and agency spokesperson for the Mathematical and Physical Sciences directorate, which includes astronomy, chemistry, materials research, mathematics and physics. I delivered written and multimedia science content related to these topics to various stakeholders including agency leaders, news media, scientists and the public.I was also involved in NSF’s Science: Becoming the Messenger communications training workshops, and I helped create and manage the agency’s social media presence. In addition I co-developed, wrote and produced the NSF Chalk Talk series, an animated series of short videos that acts as a video glossary.

Worked with the public affairs team to summarize objectives and priorities, develop a strategic plan for media initiatives, and implement this plan to serve the mission of NSF. Also served as the project manager, producer, writer, and host of NSF’s Green Revolution video series.

At the museum I led hands-on activities and demonstrations for visitors. We worked hard to draw parallels between model organisms and humans, and also used examples from every day life to illustrate how much science applies to our daily routine.

At the MIT museum I worked to encourage learning and answer questions about the exhibits. The museum includes a number of interactive displays designed to engage visitors with current research at MIT. There is also a DNA learning lab, where LEGO DNA models are used to teach people how DNA is translated to create proteins.

My postdoctoral fellowship involved research on the functional role of Wilms' Tumor Suppressor-1 in nephrogenesis.
