Beginning my career in the construction industry with the Tristar Electric team has made me very excited for my future. I was exposed to various roles within my employment here, starting as an assistant to the estimator for roughly 8 months. After estimating I was responsible for coordinating for various clients such as: MTO, Dufferin Construction, City of Toronto, Bell Canada, Crosslinx Transit Solutions, York Region Rapid Transit Corporation and 407 ETR contracts as both a general and subcontractor. Performing to the best of my abilities daily tasks included: road closures, locates, billing, data entry, sub-contractor quotations, site visits to ensure work performed is in accordance with the contract documents. I was also responsible for direct communication with the contract administrator, and assure smooth operation of ongoing projects through until close-out. I had the opportunity to lead our weekly operations meetings with the management team and was voted in to join the Tristar health and safety committee.

From labourer to shingler, I had various duties which included: training new employees, assisting with estimating roofing materials, driving the truck and trailer to and from site, pick up materials and dumped the trailer when needed. I helped setup equipment and move material to desired locations to keep the site organized and easily accessible. The team stripped the roof of all old material, prepared the roof with new ice and water, paper, and shingles (all hand nailed), applied flashing, roof vents where needed, and finished with caulking. We removed chimneys when requested, ensured the work zone (roof and ground) was clean of debris as though we were never there (garbage, nails etc.)
