In this role I had the honor of developing a medical school partner site in the Pacific Northwest, specifically Portland, OR. My role involves direct classroom education, including facilitating case based discussions, teaching medical skills, advising and mentoring second, third and fourth year medical students, and helping to arrange their clinical rotations. We were very early adopters of distance learning technology. Our school is partnered with the National Association of Community Health Centers, so we train those who are interested in primary care and serving the underserved. I am very proud of what we have built and especially of the graduates who are now working as physicians, serving our communities.

I served as assistant, then associate dean of clinical education and services, overseeing our eleven community partner sites located in federally qualified health centers across the United States, spanning from New York to Hawaii. I assured we were providing equivalent education at each site, and maintained relations with the leadership, faculty and students at each site. I really enjoyed helping to problem solve challenges faced, assisting struggling students, negotiating contracts and budgets, and maintaining trusting relationships with each partner.

We developed a national family medicine residency consortium based in six Community Health Centers (CHCs) across the United States. This was a first of it's kind program, and we were able to take it from an idea through accreditation, recruitment, selection of residents, creation partnerships and all aspects of training and ultimately graduating incredible family physicians, many of whom stayed on to work in the CHCs in which they trained.
