I led Introba's Climate Policy and Planning team, focused on providing provinces, states, municipalities, campuses, and portfolio holders with the frameworks, research, engagement, and thought leadership necessary to set and achieve ambitious climate, energy and sustainability goals. I worked with clients and partners willing to push the envelope in low-carbon and resilient outcomes in the built environment.

Working with the City of Vancouver, CALP and members of Plymouth University in the UK to explore different thermal imaging options and opportunities to improve building and neighbourhood energy efficiency.

My PhD research explored how different conceptualizations and understandings of sustainability have different implications for its achievement in the urban context. My geographic area of interest was Vancouver's Olympic Village, a new and innovative 'sustainable urban community' built on the Southeast shore of the downtown False Creek in 2009. I traced the evolution of this unique development, from the planning and policy texts that guided its form, to the current experiences of those living and working in the area, to understand how the neighbourhood's particular narrative of liveable, sustainable communities has translated into practice. My research highlights the need to consider the lived experiences of sustainable neighbourhood beneficiaries in neighbourhood design and assessment. The research shows the need to include building operators and managers earlier into the design of neighbourhoods, and to better support them as they surf the leaning curve associated with green buildings. I also show that similar support is required for low-income populations who are less able to participate in "sustainable living" than others. Finally, I highlight the important intersection between social and ecological goals in neighbourhood design, as several of the neighbourhood's more challenging technologies have been supported by strong place-based relationships and emerging support networks between members of the community.

As a Greenest City scholar, I assisted in the creation of the Vancouver Climate Change Adaptation Strategy by collecting background information and best practice examples, and conducting interviews with City staff to determine priority areas and the range of possible adaptation actions.

In this "post-Masters" position, I helped to develop conceptual frameworks and methodologies on multi-level governance for understanding and evaluating climate change adaptation policy in 4 EU countries. I conducted in-person interviews with policy-makers at municipal, regional and national institutions in Italy, as well as several other national level organisations throughout Europe. As a part of my role, I managed a small team of transcribers, coordinated the authorship of several book chapters, and made substantial contributions to a number of published articles.

During and immediately following my Masters degree, I developed and applied conceptual frameworks on vulnerability to climate change at the Global Environmental Change Group. My work resulted in two publications that are now frequently cited in scholarship on climate adaptation in developing countries.
