Preparation and delivery (teaching) of hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) lessons to classrooms of students at local public schools

Contributed to the development of next generation clinical candidates. Responsibilities included:• Set-up a screen for a research stage oligonucleotide drug candidate. Immunoblotting, IF and ELISA were used to assess effectiveness of target knockdown in a variety of cancer cell lines. • Used screen to evaluate proof-of-concept compounds for efficacy and specificity and to identify lead sequences.• Collaborated with chemistry on lead optimization.

Identification of surrogate markers to assess the effects of anti-angiogenic and vascular disrupting agents in solid tumors. Development of biomarker assays as tertiary end-points in clinical trials.• Developed flow cytometry assays for rare-circulating cells and microparticles using 5/6 color-flow cytometry. • Conducted flow cytometry and ELISA assays for nine Phase I and II clinical trials involving five trial centers. In addition to research and laboratory work this involved: Collaborating with clinicians and other researchers. Implementing Good Clinical Practise guidelines for regulatory compliance. Presenting findings at clinical trial meetings and in trial reports. Prioritising work, and project management. Responsibility for flow cytometer maintenance and user training.• As a member of the stem cell research group, processed and banked peripheral blood, umbilical cord blood and HUVECs for research.

Taught in undergraduate pharmacy and pharmacology labs.

Took detailed, accurate lecture notes for pharmacy and pharmacology students with specific learning difficulties and disabilities.

Industrial placement year in Lead Discovery at Celltech (now UCB Pharma) developing chemotaxis assays for drug screening.
