A U.S.-Mexico 501-C3 / NGO, The Netza Project is named for the unique Escuela Primaria Bilingue Netzahualcoyotl (or The Netza School) in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. This innovative six-language public school was founded by Directora Marina Sanchez Hernandez more than twenty years ago by gathering a handful of street children under a tree. The Netza School is committed to a mission of inclusion, respect for diversity and honoring indigenous culture. It pioneered access to education for the region's most at-risk children. As The Netza Project Executive Director, I established objectives, created fundraising campaigns, expanded volunteer engagements, and managed all aspects of donor relations and non-profit operations. Over time and working with diverse local and international partners and donors including Rotary International and Zihua Sailfest, we collectively succeeded in creating a well-equipped, all-new primary and preschool campus offering appropriately customized instruction serving over 450 students. I helped create a level-appropriate library of over 500 donated multilingual books. Faculty customized and sourced effective lesson materials for engaging classroom, after-school, and extracurricular activities.Scholarship programs were created to help students successfully continue beyond grade 6 into nearby high schools and college. I acreated a women's financial literacy curriculum and microfinance program, and activity agendas for new international visiting volunteer youth and teacher programs. Many, many hands helped create The Netza School's success. I received several commendations from the State of Guerrero, Mexico government, the indigenous community, and from Rotary International.
