Lisa is a water policy and environmental management professional who has dedicated her career to protecting and restoring the health of lakes and wetlands throughout the world. She is currently a Senior Research Specialist and Development Officer at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies. She served on the board (2017-2022) and as President (2021) of the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS). She wrote about global lake topics for National Geographic's Water Currents blog (2012-2017). She co-founded LakeNet, a world lakes network that was active from 1998 to 2008, leading a global initiative to document and share lessons learned in lake basin management. She also helped facilitate the development and early implementation of a comprehensive, watershed management plan for Lake Champlain (1990 to 1997). An avid sailor, Lisa and her late husband sailed from their homeport on the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Black Seas, and to all five of the Great Lakes. They co-wrote a sailing guide to the Black Sea published by Imray/RCCPF.
