Lisa Ann Burns was born in Conroe, Texas to Bobbie Jean Burns and Rosie Lee Golden on April, 12, 1983. She is an oil painter, with a background in charcoal and pencil; taught by her father. Her current series, Justice was inspired by the unfair social conditions found in America, especially in the Southern states. Lisa lives in Lubbock, Texas, where she attended Texas Tech University to study studio art, art history and Classics. Lisa opened Hummingbirdgirl Gallery and Studio in May of 2012. Lisa's method recreates sfumato by layering thin pigments in oil to create solid images. The natural properties of oil paint relative to other paints are exploited to create naturalistic images. The methods used are labor and time intensive and recreate Classical painting methods. The methods used create a highly textured, richly pigmented, uniquely modern, Classically inspired form of oil painting. Her work is inspired by Rothko and Dali, being composed of numerous layers of oil rich paint like Rothko, but forming complex allegorical images similar to Dali's work. Inspired by an Old Man and his Grandson a ca. 1490 tempera painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Domenico Ghirlandaio, Lisa incorporates emotional images to create beautiful images of ugly ideas. The Justice series contains Blind Justice(at the witches Sabbath), Archeon, Slavery, and Freedom, and is conceptually related to Sublime art throughout the ages.
