Passionate about education and skills as a route to transforming lives. I am currently CEO & Principal of The Sandwell Colleges Group, the largest college in the West Midlands and WMCA and which serves some of the most deprived wards in the country. I led and transformed Stoke on Trent College as their CEO and Principal until late 2024 which was one of the most brilliant experiences of my career. Prior to this, I was Principal at Nacro the Social Justice charity and largest national training provider of its type, and previously Executive Director for the Trust and Vice Principal of a well known education learning group of 2 Further Education Colleges and Academies Trust.My experience is in initiating and leading high profile government projects and change programmes, specialising in education, adult skills and children’s services. Prior to the College Group and Academies Trust, I held senior roles at Department of Education and Skills (DfE) and Department for Business and Skills (BiS) in Further Education and Skills . Previously held senior posts in two national education and children’s charities. First female Chair of a renowned £25m national charity (National Deaf Children’s Society) Described by others as someone “who makes things happen”, and is dynamic and energetic. Known for exceptional leadership and stakeholder management achieving two Permanent Secretary’s awards from Vince Cable at BIS. I have a drive for delivery and new initiatives.In Government:Led significant aspects of the National £3bn Skills for Life Strategy (adult literacy and numeracy) with Colleges and employers; Managed Government's flagship WorldSkills (Vocational Skills Olympics) hosted by UK working with high profile stakeholders, No 10, hosting 52 countries, 200,000 visitors, 1000 competitors, 20m private sponsorship, improved medal stock for UK of 13 medals and significant legacy project - annual Skills Show;Transformed fledgling National Skills Academies programme from 6 to 18 Academies in Rail, Nuclear, Energy, winning ministerial support for future bidding rounds; Initiated two innovative and sustained national programmes on parent and community education (Share and Step in to Learning) attracting private and government funding with national roll out across schools and Sure Start centres;Initiated and led for BiS on the national Independent Commission on Adult Vocational Teaching and Learning.
