I am responsible for engaging new donors in giving through the Community Foundation, leading on family and corporate giving, trust transfers, community benefit funds, sponsorship and developing new approaches to philanthropy in the area. The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland is the largest community foundation in the UK and one of the biggest funders of the community and voluntary sector in its area. In the last year alone, 1,442 grants totalling over £7 million were awarded to charities and community groups; since its inception in 1988, funds worth over £100 million have been distributed. Its endowment fund stands at £73m.The Foundation is a registered charity and limited company, governed by a highly engaged and expert Board of Trustees, and managed by a team of 21 staff. Its mission is to strengthen communities and enrich local life through effective giving. Individuals, families, businesses and other charities give through the Foundation to help local people, communities and causes.
