I retired after a 26-year career teaching AP Economics, AP US Government, and other courses at Kokomo High School. I am a member of the Kokomo School Board of Trustees and continue work with freelance writing, community organizations, and non-profits.I am an Honors College, magna cum laude graduate of Ball State University, where I was a Whitinger Scholar and earned bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Political Science. I studied in the MA program in Public Policy Analysis at the University of Oklahoma, specializing in unemployment policy. I earned a Social Studies teaching license and later a master’s degree in Secondary Education from Ball State University.I've earned national and state awards for teaching and writing. I was a teacher representative on the Indiana Council for Economic Education Executive Committee. I wrote and reviewed lessons for the national Council for Economic Education’s EconEdLink website. I was part of the teams that wrote Indiana's Economics Standards and helped to develop the Core-40 Exam in Economics and the Indiana Economics teaching license exams.For McGraw-Hill, I wrote the textbook used by KHS AP Economics students and revised the teacher's manual for the top-selling AP Economics textbook and AP US Government textbook. I've published many AP Economics materials through McGraw-Hill, and I’ve written nearly three dozen Economics lessons for the National and Indiana Councils for Economic Education, the Federal Reserve, the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Historical Society, and the National Women's History Museum. I have written questions for potential use on AP US Government exams for Educational Testing Service, and I have also been a presenter at national and state conferences on Economic Education and Gifted Education. I have served as a critical reviewer of Economics and Government textbooks for multiple publishers.My top priority is to improve equity within our school district and help people understand the critical role economics and politics play in our daily lives. My goal is to empower people to participate in our society, as we need passionate voices across the political spectrum to promote the most effective policies.
