Co-Founder And Publicist

Greater New York City Area
As a co-founder and Publicist for the WeWantWork campaign for employment, I told the story about the climate of unemployment in New York City following 9/11. I showcased the difficult job market and helped get a group of professionals back to work. At that time, New Yorkers were in mourning and the city was traumatized. Added in to the pain was the downfall of the dot com era, all resulting in thousands of layoffs.Joining forces with Marc Seago and Emily Malatesta Kelton we launched WeWantWork in October 2002, after spending a summer planning it out. We used the Internet to showcase our resumes, along with 40 other participants, displaying our talents at WeWantWork.com. This was, at the time, groundbreaking. It was before LinkedIn had taken off, and people were still scared to display their resumes online. I'll never forget how scared I was to do so, and what a big responsibilty it was to encourage others to join us in doing the same. We also took to the streets with our job hunt, wearing placard signs and handing out flyers for our website. As the group's Publicist, I secured international media coverage for WeWantWork, and our effort was reported by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, CNN, BBC, The Today Show, WNBC Radio, The New York Post and The Daily News, among many other outlets around the world. Did it work? Nearly all participants were hired or got interviews. We were also awarded a Purple Cow by the famous marketing guru Seth Godin, and we were invited by the Mayor of New York City to speak to the Department of Labor about our effort. Our idea was picked up by other people around the country, and several WeWantWork chapters started. We made WeWantWork happen with zero budget. We helped people find jobs.We helped New York City recover from 9/11.WeWantWork is the most successful, and incredible, example of my "magic dust" PR powers!
