About the Foundation: The Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship (HYCS) Foundation was founded in 2013 by Chef David Hawksworth to recognize and inspire young chefs (age 28 and under) in Canada, whilst promoting professionalism and culinary excellence within the hospitality industry. Each year, culinary competitions take place in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver, bringing together a community of revered chefs and food influencers, including: Chef Lee Cooper, Chef Scott Jaeger, Chef Anthony Walsh, Chef Mark McEwan, Chef Connie DeSouza, Jacki Kai Ellis, and food writers like Mijune Pak and Jacob Richler. The Foundation inspires a culture of mentorship in the industry and strengthens the Canadian culinary community.

One of four hosts, chosen to be featured in Season 3 of One World Kitchen (cooking show). Casted as a specialist of Vietnamese cuisine, I completed intensive on-camera training and successfully recorded six, one-hour episodes. Audition process included the production of culinary videos, content idea pitches, research and multiple interviews. Production days began at 4:00am and cameras rolling by 6:00am. I thrive running on adrenaline, fast-thinking, and a collaborative team environment. Each episode had a general outline but mostly ad libbed, while cooking up 24 recipes. Joining the digital editorial team as an intern in 2009, I have continued to be a contributing staff member ever since. Over the three years, I have produced web videos for the BCBusiness Online publication, contributed lifestyle content to Granville Online Magazine, and currently curating the BCBusiness 'The Social List’ blog, sponsored by Rhino Marketing. In this role, I attend Vancouver's most-talked about, VIP events and photograph the iconic faces of the local business community and socialites. This role has helped me establish relationships with PR firms and journalists, who constantly keep me up-to-date with community happenings.

The mission was to elevate a newly opened, Japanese-owned restaurant in Canada. Responsibilities ranged from working with immigration lawyers to acquire working permits for Japanese hires for Miku Restaurant, collaborate with PR agencies to gain exposure and accolades in Vancouver's competitive restaurant industry, initiate digital and in-person marketing initiatives (Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, Tripadvisor, OpenTable, Google Ads, concierge outreach). Most importantly, ensure food philosophy and company values are translated and incorporated across all internal and external touch points.

Delhi, India & Muscat, Oman

Recruited by Infostrada Sports to produce the official podcasts of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. Stationed in the main media centre in Delhi, India for one month, I produced over 10 podcasts featuring daily sport highlights, athlete interviews and cultural features. This is the first time an organizing committee for the Commonwealth Games included podcasts on their official website. In December 2010, I joined the Games News Service team for the 2010 Asian Beach Games in Muscat, Oman as an audio reporter. During the eight-day event, I attended over three sporting events at different venues each day, interviewed athletes, and produced clips to be used for English-speaking radio stations in the Middle East and South Asian regions.

As part of the workforce engagement team, my role was to connect and inspire thousands of staff and volunteers through communications and events. Daily responsibilities included writing articles for the staff intranet site, copyediting communication pieces from various internal departments to ensure voice and tone aligned with VANOC's writing style, and organizing social events; key events include the uniform launch and internal Torch Relay event. The wide scope of the role enabled me to work with various functions, including Sustainability and Media Relations, as well as sponsorship/government partners. In addition, I launched and administered the official 'Team 2010' Facebook page and created web videos, interviewing Team Canada athletes and John Furlong. In preparation for games-time, I trained over 40 communication volunteers for venue communications.

A part-time industry job I held throughout my final year of broadcast training. Working with a group of experienced radio broadcasters and editors, this role taught me how to work under extreme pressure, where every story is time sensitive and is crucial to maintaining competitive news coverage. I monitored and edited audio stories coming in from newswires, prioritized press releases, and reported from special events and news scrums. The highlight of the job was to have the opportunity to be part of the 2007 municipal election and Calgary Stampede coverage team.
