About Lisa Gray, Mba
I started my career journey in the City of Westfield in the Water Dept. and Senior Center, before moving to the School Dept. as a Senior Clerk Steno (got to love titles), to a cancer diagnosis at 32 that brought my life into perspective. I had started college years before but stepped away for jobs and family. Now I had a chance to start over and I returned to school to get my degree in business. While going through my diagnosis, surgery, and chemo, I transferred to an elementary school where I was a Principal Clerk (Steno - yep, still that). I enjoyed my time learning all different aspects of work – all of which I spent using MUNIS; for six years I processed and paid hundreds of invoices a week, assisted departments with budgeting, ordering, and did research as needed. The school was a whole new experience where you realize just how important that person in the office is. I always knew what people needed before they asked or knew themselves. Whether it was telling them how to fix the copier (they always had that look), to working with children and parents, it was a busy and rewarding time. At that school, I was fortunate enough to have the support of my principals who helped me to move forward with my career. After graduating in the first class of Western New England University, I was fortunate to be hired to work in their IT department in a position that was the equivalent of an office manager; overseeing the purchasing of IT-related hardware and software, ensuring the best pricing was found, keeping everything stocked, up to date, managing a $5m budget for our department, and a multi-million dollar ERP budget, and so much more. During my time there I earned another bachelor’s degree and my MBA.Leaving there after 6 years was frightening and trying; the place I left for didn’t work out, but had I not had that experience, I wouldn’t have ended up in Hartford. As a Budget Analyst for the city, I am responsible for a variety of departments where I work with them to adhere to their budget. Monthly analysis projections, report creation, PowerPoint presentations, Acrobat work, and more Pivot tables and formulas than one person should know – but I love every minute of it. I’m the go-to person with tech questions, set up SharePoint groups, maintain our webpage, and assist anyone who asks for help on anything. I guess deep down I am an Excel junkie; it’s hard to function outside of it 😊.So, that’s me at work; at home, it’s all about family, bunnies, and cars.
