I have more than a decade of experience as a communications strategist and storyteller for purpose-driven brands and nonprofits at the international level. I've served as a communications advisor and consultant for organizations ranging from the internationally-acclaimed We Are Sikhs social justice campaign, to award-winning disability rights nonprofit Living Opportunities. For eight years, I directed the communications strategy for YouthActionNet, an initiative funded by Laureate International Universities, Starbucks, Hilton, Mastercard, and others, supporting young social entrepreneurs driving sustainable, grassroots change in 90 countries around the world. I traveled internationally on a regular basis and collaborated closely with community organizers, leaders, and social entrepreneurs to tell the stories of their work, partnering with B Corp and Fortune 500 funders committed to social progress and environmental sustainability. Now at the American Institutes for Research, one of the world's largest social science research institutions, I work with executive leaders to craft messages that underscore our values and drive our mission forward. I lead AIR's growth and eminence-building in corporate social responsibility by establishing and nurturing high visibility, mutually beneficial partnerships with mission-aligned nonprofits to open pathways for opportunity in communities where AIR staff live and work worldwide. My educational background in cultural anthropology is evident in my human-centered communications approach. I seek out environments with diverse collaborators and stakeholders, working to develop meaningful messages for target audiences by speaking to their values and worldview—always thinking first about inclusion and cultural context.I believe that every time we communicate we have the power to connect or disconnect, and empathy is our greatest tool in defining that outcome.
