Lisa J. Shannon is a human rights activist, author and public speaker, encouraging everyone to step up to change our world. She is the cofounder and CEO of Every Woman Treaty, a global coalition advancing a treaty to end violence against women and girls. She is also founder of Run for Congo Women, cofounder of Sister Somalia, and has spearheaded many other major media and human rights campaigns. Lisa Shannon and Vidya Sri cofounded Every Woman Treaty. Incubated at the Havard Carr Center for Human Rights, the coalition quickly grew to comprise a diverse group of frontline activists, including people with disabilities, LGBTQ, indigenous, widows, survivors, and a global working group women's rights activists from 128 nations.Lisa’s award-winning first book, A Thousand Sisters, details her journeys into war-affected eastern Congo. Her 2015 book, Mama Koko and the Hundred Gunmen, tells how Congolese expatriate Francisca Thelin embarks, with Shannon, on a perilous journey back to her beloved homeland, now under the shadow of one of Africa’s most feared militias – Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army.
