Content Specialist For Speech-Language Pathology (Lead Slp, K-12)
I worked at Mesa Public Schools (the largest school district in the state of Arizona) for 13 years, 6 of which were spent as the lead SLP. My position as the Content Specialist for Speech and Language allowed me the opportunity to develop and sustain support mechanisms available to over 100 K-12 Speech Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants within the district. I maintained an understanding of the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards to further support the integration of speech and language skills within the general education curriculum. I was responsible for communicating with the Department of Health Services to ensure that MPS was aligned with regulations and licensure for Speech Language Pathologists and Speech Language Pathology Assistants. I served as a link to Arizona State University to support the placement of Speech Language Pathology Assistants through the Part Time Employment Program. I served as a guest speaker for undergraduate and graduate Speech and Hearing students on topics related to the school setting at Arizona State and Midwestern Universities. I assisted with placements of graduate and undergraduate students for semester SLP and SLPA internships throughout the district. I mentored, coached, and guided new and veteran SLPs working in Mesa Public Schools. I coordinated and provided small- and large-group training to all SLPs in the district on various communication topics. I led a group of 6 district SLP representatives in monthly meetings aimed at developing supports for SLPs, productively problem solving, and mediating concerns at the SLP level. I served on various general education project task teams, which are flexible groups of specialists assigned to complete district level tasks within Mesa Public Schools.
