The Chief of Staff assists the Bishop of Lansing in his three-fold ministry of teaching, governing, and sanctifying. The position provides direction to the Chancery departments and works with pastors, school administrators, and charitable agency directors to assure that their missions fully align with the mission of Jesus Christ and the Bishop's vision for missionary discipleship in the local Church of Lansing.In this role I collaborate with various offices and leaders within the Chancery in order to build cohesiveness and clarity among the staff so that clergy and lay leaders experience optimal support from the diocesan staff. I play a lead role in the strategic and operational planning for the diocese. I lead cross-functional internal teams to ensure the success of strategic diocesan initiatives that are in line with diocesan priorities. This role requires that I am involved in crisis management and communication plans as well as a key stakeholder in the development of the annual budget. The position requires that I am informed of all civil and canonical matters in the diocese so that I may provide proper advice to the Bishop of Lansing. Finally, I lead bi-monthly cabinet meetings on behalf of the bishop, and I keep the entire staff abreast of our work through quarterly all staff meetings. I serve on a number of diocesan boards and committees.

The Director of Human Resources assists the Bishop of Lansing in the fulfillment of his ministry by helping to locate and retain an outstanding workforce of persons who understand, who are committed to, and who ably accomplish the works of the Church. I work with diocesan officials, pastors, school principals, and agency directors to assure that employment practices are fully in compliance with the Church's canon law and with civil law, and that they reflect best practices in the realm of human resources. I provide support to our 72 parishes, 34 schools, and 5 charitable agencies throughout our ten-county diocese in Central Michigan.I provide professional development for parishes through team building workshops on topics such as Gallup's Strengths Assessment and the Working Genius. I also conduct educational sessions for pastors and business managers to develop their interview skills to hire well and advise them on policies that will attract and retain talented people.

Oversee human resource functions for the Michigan Supreme Court and Michigan Court of Appeals. Primary responsibilities include development and maintenance of consistent employment practices, pay policies, and personnel procedures, along with educational program components that ensure adherence to sound principals of personnel administration. The position supervises two HR Generalists and a Payroll Administrator. Serve as a consultant to the Regional Trial Court Administrators as human resources issues arise in the trial courts. Serve as a Division Leaders and meet weekly with the State Court Administrator and other Division Leaders. Develop and deliver ongoing professional development seminars on topics such as change management and strategic planning.

Design, develop, and maintain the distance learning educational programs, projects, services, and technologies for employees of the Michigan judiciary. Managed a statewide grant to fund onsite training programs for court support staff throughout Michigan.

Consult with corporate leadership to design, develop, and facilitate training programs for bank employees. Topics I worked on include: leadership programs, online banking, mortgage programs, small business lending, new account product and system training, the online relationship management system, new teller school, new employee orientation, and compliance/security training.
