As Dean International, I provide strategic leadership in: developing international partnerships for collaborations in teaching & learning and research; growing international recruitment strategy for our Schools' programs; establishing and nurturing Humanities programs across Curtin’s global campuses; supporting student global mobility both in- and outbound, including Indigenous global mobility initiatives; and contributing to positive experiences for our international students. In the Faculty of Humanities, we have particular expertise and interest in the Indian Ocean, and are building capacity for engagement and strengthening connections with our neighbours in Southeast & East Asia, in particular Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Japan, and Korea.My own research and teaching centre around:- New/World Englishes, especially postcolonial Asian varieties in multilingual ecologies, e.g. Singapore and Hong Kong, with particular interest in contact dynamics, involving both sociohistorical and linguistic investigation; - issues of language shift, endangerment, revitalisation, and post-vernacular linguistic and cultural vitality in minority and endangered language communities, such as the Peranakans in Singapore and the Malays of Sri Lanka; - the sociolinguistics of globalisation, with interests in migration, mobility, urban multiculturalism, computer-mediated communication, and their impact on language contact.My expertise comprises:* Research: linguistic fieldwork in urban and rural communities; speech analyses; data transcription and analysis for digital archiving* Publications: academic papers and monographs; internal reports, recommendation briefs, government publications* Presentations: scholarly papers at academic conferences and workshops* Teaching and supervision: at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in Asia, Europe, Australia* Engagement and impact: consultations with industry; engagement with community; print and online media; online resources; public lectures and talks* Leadership: Headship of School and Department; coordinatorship of undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes and research students; research groups* Project management: of individual and team research projects, with both local and external funding* Organisation: of international conferences and workshops, in Asia, Europe, Australia* Editorship: academic editorship of collected volumes and journals; linguistic/copy editing of book projectsLanguages: English, Mandarin, (Baba/Bazaar) Malay, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Sri Lanka Malay
