About Lisa Cates
As the Executive Director of the New Orleans Photo Alliance (NOPA), I oversee the board, volunteer staff, and the Gallery Director to develop year-round programs, exhibitions, and fundraisers, including the annual PhotoNOLA Festival. With more than seven years of leadership experience in this role, I have built strong community partnerships, secured grants and sponsorships, and enhanced the visibility and impact of NOPA's mission to foster the appreciation of photography in the Gulf South region of the US.In addition to my role at NOPA, I also work as an Expedition Leader for National Geographic, where I have been teaching photography in the field to high school students from diverse backgrounds for over 13 years. I am responsible for the health and well-being of the students, as well as the production of marketing materials and the facilitation of student projects, critiques, debriefs, and group discussions. I hold an Executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology, and a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT) certification from MEDIC SOLO Disaster+Wilderness Medical School. I am passionate about photography as a tool for education, empowerment, and social change.
