As the Manager in Charge, you're the go-to person for the store during your shift. HEB has top notch leadership training, and invests heavily training their teams.From dealing with employees, to dealing with customers, happy or dissatisfied, you are trained to be a true servant leader - you learn quickly that strong-arm tactics don't work, that in order to gain the cooperation of others, you must be willing to compromise in any number of areas, and always be willing to work for it. HEB was also the first Grocery chain that I had worked for that promoted women, because it made good business sense, not because it looked good on paper. They recognize that people are good at what they do when they are trained well and fostered with respect, regardless of gender. My (now adult) children helped pay their way through college working at HEB & Central Market, and we are all still very loyal HEB Customers.
