I am a 1997 graduate of the college of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television. I began my career in public broadcasting as a student volunteer at WSIU Radio, and have been proud to serve in many roles in my over twenty-nine year career in public media. I currently am Director of Audio Programming and Operations at KPBS in San Diego, California. KPBS is consistently one of the top radio station in the San Diego market. I am responsible for the 24-hour operations and programming of KPBS Radio, Reading Service and Podcast platforms. As Director of Audio Programming and Operations, I work to accomplish the mission of KPBS to consistently deliver quality public radio content and local news to KPBS listeners both online and over the air. Formerly, I served as Radio Operations Manager at WSIU in Carbondale, Illinois. I also served as Director of the Southern Illinois Radio Information Service, the reading service for the blind and print-impaired of WSIU Public Broadcasting. I have also done small-town radio, serving as a disc jockey and board operator at WDQN in Duquoin, Illinois. I am from Longview, Illinois, a very rural part of central Illinois, and I grew up listening to and watching WILL, the public broadcasting affiliate in Urbana, Illinois. That early love of public television and radio fostered my love of music, art, reading, as well as spending time outdoors in nature. I am also an avid A.P.A. pool player and has competed at the national level in Las Vegas.

In my position as FM Operations Manager at WSIU Radio, I performed a wide variety of operational, programming and production duties for the NPR public radio affiliate. For many years, I had the responsibility for the 24-hour operations and programming of WSIU Radio. I was in charge of traffic, continuity and promotions, producing daily program logs using Natural Log traffic software/database. I was also in charge of working with and programming our computer automation system ENCO DadPro32, with seven networked computer terminals. I am proficient in P.R.S.S./Content Depot operations, the NPR/PRI/APM Stations sites as well as other various programming sources. I also have a working knowledge and understand the best practices for studio recording, and I am proficient in Adobe digital production work for the station, as well as, writing and producing and voicing promotional, fundraising, and underwriting spots and other program elements. The overall responsibility for the recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision and evaluation of our program hosts, community volunteers, and student employee board operators rested with me, and I had to revise, write and develop training materials for all of the station’s newer broadcast equipment and automation systems for all staff. I have excellent board operator skills, a broad musical knowledge and extensive on-air experience including hosting and producing several genres of music shows including classical music, and I have encouraged and conducted training for locally hosted programs when applicable. I have extensive experience as an on-air fundraising talent and fundraising producer for our successful pledge drives, and I have knowledge in the use of PledgeDriver. I was also in charge of making sure the stations were compliant with all current F.C.C. rules and regulations, C.P.B. reports, overseeing all E.A.S. tests, and coordinating any engineering or I.T. fixes in FM Operations.

Spent two terms as Interim Director of the Southern Illinois Radio Information Service. SIRIS is the WSIU sub-carrier broadcast for people with vision or print impairments. While Director, I oversaw State of Illinois and United Way grants, and attended state-wide meetings in Springfield while serving on that board of directors.

- Served as D.J. for evening shift five nights a week playing adult contemporary, country, and oldies mix- Ran board for local high school athletic events, Illini basketball, and NASCAR racing- Rewrote and read A.P. and local news, sports and weather- Produced and voiced commercial advertisements- Had to meet network ABC news at the top of every hour- Responsible for shutting down transmitter at night
