I spent 25 years traveling and teaching and ultimately working side by side with renown educators and authors Sam Crowell, Renata and Geoffery Caine, and Stuart Grauer - contemporaries on the cutting edge, working to renovate our educational system. As a teacher of English, writing and literature, French, West African dance, and yoga, I have been a strong proponent of the liberal arts for my whole career. As a life-long poet, I have taught, edited, and performed poetry in a wide variety of venues throughout California. I have a book of poetry entitled Vintage, which follows the seasons of growing wine, and I have published in many literary journals and anthologies. I was also part of a team of journalists, writers, and photographers to walk the Appalachian Trail head to toe, resulting in a beautiful book nominated for a Pulitzer prize in journalism - Appalachian Adventure: From Maine to Georgia - A Spectacular Journey on the Great Appalachian Trail.Nine years ago I returned to my family farm in the Appalachians of North Georgia to become the sixth generation on Tiger Mountain, where I grow grapes and make wine. At Tiger Mountain Vineyards we have won over 250 national awards for our fine wines. I also manage and coordinate events at our Red Barn Cafe overlooking the vineyards. I plan vineyard weddings and wine pairing dinners with renown chefs, support locally grown, and host farm-to-table and farm-to-school events. As a writer, I am currently working toward the publication of a new poetry collection, Caught in the Tree Rings of Time. I am also currently working on publishing a memoir/work of creative nonfiction, entitled She Who is the Moon, that chronicles my calling to the Native American spiritual traditions and the rebirth of the women's ceremonies.

VintnerTiger Mountain Vineyards Nov 2018 - PresentTiger, Georgia, United StatesI managed and worked the harvest, crushed grapes, monitored the open vat fermentation process, transferred wine to American, Hungarian, and French oak barrels for aging, collaborated with laboratory technicians to fine and finish the wines, and participated in hand bottling the finished product. I made wines in the Old-World style with very little manipulation. Reds were barrel aged for two years, and whites and roses were bottled within six to nine months. I typically bled off the Cabernet Franc to make a dry, Province-style rosé. We were a small boutique/farm winery, so we produced around 2,000 cases a year, and I only used grapes grown in our vineyards (except on the rare and unfortunate occasion when we lost Viognier- in particular, due to late frost).I also lead tours and educated our guests about the varietals we grew and our production methods here at Tiger Mountain Vineyards. Over my four years as a wine maker, I created a new blend called Fearful Symmetry, in honor of one of my father's (owner of TIger Mountain Vineyards and pioneer of fine wine making/growing in the northeastern Appalachians) favorite poems, "TIger, Tiger," by WIlliam Blake. Over my four years as wine maker and 11 years as a wine grower, I won many awards for our fine wines, including a silver for my Tannat 2018 in the Women's International and several golds for my vitages of Cabernet Franc, Norton, Mountain Cyn (a blend of Norton and Cabernet Franc),Malbec, and Rabun Red (a blend of five varietals) from the San Francisco International, the LA International and the International Eastern. -
Vineyard ManagerTiger Mountain Vineyards Jan 2012 - Jul 2023Tiger Mountain VineyardsI grew 8 vinifera, 5 reds and 2 whites: Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Touriga Nacional, Tannat, Mourvedre, Viognier, and Petit Manseng. I also grow Norton, an indigenous grape of the southeastern US. I pruned all winter, planted and trained through spring and summer, and harvested in fall. Management included spray schedules for Japanese beetles and downey and powdery mildews, fertilzing the soil, and spreading lime to balance out the acidity of the terroir. I also grew Norton organically, using milky spores and neem oil for the maintenance of healthy vines. -
Special Events Coordinator, Tiger Mountan VineyardsTiger Mountain Vineyards Sep 2011 - Nov 2017Tiger Mountain VineyardsI ran an upscale, indoor-outdoor cafe that has a bit of old-world European flare and opens out onto the vineyards and Tiger Mountain. We had monthly farm-to-table wine dinners and served seasonal lunches and dinners (spring through autumn). I was the wine steward and worked in collaboration with several gifted chefs, including: David Sweeney, who was formerly with Dynamic Dish in Atlanta and is a true advocate of locally grown, organic produce; Jamie Allred, from Fortify: Bar and Kitchen in Clayton, GA, who was awarded one of the top 100 chefs in the country by Open Table and was nominated for a James Beard Award. I was also the events planner at The Red Barn Cafe, and I have planned many beautiful vineyard weddings and rehearsal dinners at Tiger Mountain Vineyards. In the vineyards I have both planned, overseen, and worked to plant, train, prune, and harvest. -
