Passionate about reshaping the narrative around shelter pets, I founded HeARTs Speak in 2010 and currently serve as its Executive Director. Through art and advocacy, we're changing perceptions to help animals and the people who love them.Background:* BA from Vassar College* MA from GoddardPhilosophy:I'm an artist, an animal lover, and thoughtful leader committed to discovering holistic solutions to the issue of animal homelessness. I firmly believe in fostering collaborative efforts that empower all stakeholders to co-create a brighter future together.
Personal Life:I have always found myself advocating for the animals that are often misunderstood.The first in my family to be born in the United States, my mother was from Japan, and my father was born in East Berlin to Romanian and Dutch parents.From an early age, my biracial identity exposed me to the unfairness of being judged based on appearances. This experience, though subtle at first, inspired me to advocate for a more nuanced and compassionate understanding of both people and animals. My ability to consider diverse perspectives has always played a central role in the development of all HeARTs Speak programs.I live on a small farm in New York’s Hudson Valley, with my dog Halle (aka House Pony), cat Frank, and 15 chickens.
