Lisa Velez is a Claims Consultant in the Health Care Professional Division at MedPro Group. She was previously a partner at Cassiday Schade where she concentrated her practice in the areas of medical malpractice, pharmacy liability, professional liability and nursing home defense. Ms. Velez sat on Cassiday Schade's Hiring Committee and co-chaired the firm's Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Ms. Velez has previous firm experience practicing in the areas of medical malpractice, professional liability, pharmacy liability, construction accident litigation and general liability. Ms. Velez received her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. At UCLA School of Law, Ms. Velez was a member of the Moot Court Honors Program. She served as the Recent Developments Editor and Essays Editor for the Women’s Law Journal, and as an Assistant Editor for the Chicano-Latino Law Review. Ms. Velez received her bachelor’s degree in applied psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was a member of the honors program. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ms. Velez was a member of Psi Chi, National Psychology Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. Velez is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association. She is a member of the ISBA's Animal Law Section Council and co-editor of the Animal Law newsletter. She is a member of the ISBA’s Diversity Leadership Council and Standing Committee on Racial & Ethnic Minorities and the Law. Ms. Velez is a member of the Chicago Bar Association; she is Vice Chair of the Animal Law Committee. She is also a member of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois (HLAI). She served as the Chair of HLAI’s Public Relations Committee from 2006 – 2008. Ms. Velez is an active member of her community. She is an active volunteer at Save-A-Pet Adoption Center, and a licensed Illinois humane investigator. She previously served as a volunteer counselor at A Safe Place providing counseling to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
