The Human Rights Campaign is the largest LGBT civil rights organization in the country.I spoke at community meetings, schools, places of worship, etc. about the importance of passing marriage equality in the state of New York. Most places were not naturally sympathetic to our cause, so there was a lot of education and patience involved.I recruit volunteers, people to have house parties, petitioners, etc to have people in their communities contact their state senators to urge them to vote for marriage equality.We worked closely with other LGBT groups and other interested groups throughout New York and the federal level to create a unified front.I would organize and handle logistics of rallies, regional phone banks, television appearances, forums and community meetings; as well as submit daily and weekly reporting of goals met to both my immediate supervisor and the national headquarters of HRC. I was very involved in the planning of many events after Marcelo Lucero’s murder in Patchogue, which included a candlelight vigil where over 1,200 people came to remember Marcelo’s life and support his family and friends during a difficult time.
