Lisa Yen, BSN, MSN, ACNP-BC, NBC-HWC, has a unique perspective as a nurse practitioner, health coach, patient advocate, and caregiver. After 12 years as a nurse practitioner hospitalist, she hung up her white coat in 2015 when her husband was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, neuroendocrine cancer (or neuroendocrine tumor or NET). Lisa’s focus shifted from the diagnosis and management of diseases to lifestyle medicine and patient advocacy. 
Lisa trained under Dr. Ruth Wolever in Vanderbilt University’s Health Coaching Certificate Program (VHCCP) and passed the National Board Certification for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBC-HWC) in June 2018. She serves as lead faculty for the VHCCP-MeHarry program and mentor faculty with the VA’s Whole Health Coaching program. 
Lisa lives with her husband in Los Angeles where she dedicates her time to LACNETS, the Los Angeles Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (LACNETS). As Program Director, she is responsible for launching and overseeing programs providing education and support for NET patients and caregivers, including a health coaching program, mentorship program, caregiver program, and educational programs. She facilitates weekly support group meetings and writes regular educational blogs and quizzes. Lisa is active in community service and served in medical missions to Kenya and Haiti. Her passion is to help improve the quality of life for those who have been touched by NET and to prevent burn-out for caregivers and healthcare professionals.
