As a Grants Coordinator at QB3, I lead the conceptualization of collaborative multidisciplinary projects that are far beyond what one group can achieve. This entails thorough literature research, identifying opportunities in the multi-million dollar range, conceiving projects, contacting scientist that share a common interest, iterating on the ideas and solidifying the group, and fundraise for their groundbreaking ideas by co-writing the proposals. I have experience with grant writing for NIH, DoD and Foundation grants and have managed collaborative projects when at the Gladstone Institutes as a Postdoc and Staff Research Scientist. My main areas of expertise are neuroscience, disease modeling with stem cells, neurodegenerative diseases and nucleotide repeat diseases. I have over a decade of experience in these areas as a wet-lab scientist and understand the challenges and day-to-day work involved in these projects. This enables me to efficiently coordinate and write these large proposals. As a Staff Scientist at Gladstone Institutes, I was responsible for the design, execution, analysis and reporting of multidisciplinary research projects following the DOE principals. I brought in close to 2 million dollars based on work from my PhD and postdoc, for which I designed and wrote the research proposals. I led a multidisciplinary team with wet-lab scientists and engineers and identified disease mechanisms that could be used for therapeutic intervention in Myotonic Dystrophy, Huntington’s Disease and X-linked Parkinsonism. As a postdoc in the Finkbeiner lab at Gladstone Institutes, my research focused on developing neuronal disease models for Myotonic Dystrophy and Huntington’s disease to study the role of epigenetics and DNA damage in neuronal disease phenotypes. This work was based on findings from my graduate work at Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB, Belgium) and in close collaboration with the University of Toronto, where I used stem cells and patient samples to identify epigenetics as the main indicator of disease severity in Myotonic Dystrophy type 1.
