VluchtelingenWerk Nederland provides the government with information concerning refugee issues and carries an active lobby for refugee rights. The organisation also develops projects to promote the integration of refugees and is committed to increasing public support. My main responsibility is to offer help to refugees with a visa and a house by leading a team of volunteers. Our goal is to make them self-reliant in terms of finances, physical and emotional health, language, social network, education, work, etc.

My research was about the extend to which the help they were offered regarding finances, physical and emotional health, language, social network, education and work was sufficient.

The Red Cross prevents and reduces human suffering by protecting lives, taking care of people’s health and by securing respect for all human beings. The Red Cross focuses especially on the most vulnerable people: people whose health is in danger and would not or barely survive without help. ‘Samen in Amsterdam’ is one of the projects in Amsterdam, that connects volunteers and people with a limited social network to strengthen their self-reliance. My main responsibilities were: • interviewing volunteers and participants • connecting volunteers and participants • monitoring and evaluation • organizing activities for participants and volunteers such as ‘Meet the Matches’ • organizing courses ‘EHBO op Maat’ (first aid)• networking with organizations and professionals • research about the wants and needs of volunteers and strengthening social networks • policy development

The United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF - works for children's rights, their survival, development and protection, guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF Netherlands is one of the 37 National Comités, educating about children in developing countries and fund raising. As a member of the Board of Volunteers I represented the interests of volunteers 27 years and younger. My main responsibilities were:• establishing 14 student teams• motivating and coaching student volunteers• organising activities and courses • policy development • creating promotional materials• chairperson of national meetings

The Dutch Albert Schweitzer Foundation offers start-up grants through the provision of microgifts, to small-scale, local health projects in Africa. The NASF operates on the vision of Nobel Peace Price winner Albert Schweitzer: A Reverence for Life, which holds respect for all living creatures at its core. I was the contactperson for project coordinators and I was responsible for monitoring and evaluating the projects. I visited a few projects in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Melania Development Cooperation is a voluntary organisation that connects people in the Netherlands to small-scaled, sustainable projects of women in Africa, Asia and Latin-America to support them.
