I am chair of Persuasive Health Technology. Persuasive Health Technology can be employed in several ways: to optimize therapies for eMental health, to support engagement and adherence to technology based interventions. To increase adherence and to influence outcomes in a positive way, experiments are set up in real life treatment programs to understand how persuasive strategies can support the interaction between technology and users. In our research group (center eHealth Research; www.cewr.nl,(persuasive tech lab) we focus on creating a fit between technology and user-profiles. In several projects we study how Persuasive Health technology can be applied to increase self-management of long-term chronic diseases (e.g. Diabetes) or chronic infections (EursafetyHealth-net). Persuasive Health Technology was applied to support decisions about health and safety in hospitals and nursing homes to reduce the widespread of superbugs, like MRSA. The superbugs can become resistant to antibiotics. To support decisions about adequate information eHealth applications (tablet/mobile) are developed in cooperation with healthcare workers. In Public health projects persuasive designs for mobile media will be developed to prevent infections. Mobile media allow citizens to consult health information when they need it and where they need it. Social media allow health organizations to communicate with citizens on healthy behavior.

I am involved in the Eursafety Health-Net project to improve cross border care for patient safety. Our eursafety project focuses on the development of applications to support a prudent use of Antibiotics (human; veterinary). At UMCG a develop a new technology project to support One Health; elearning tools for Antibiotic Stewardship programs and Decision making applications for a prudent use of antibiotics.
