I'm a BBC trained freelance journalist and PR. Having lectured part-time at Staffordshire University in Radio Presenting and Production I got the teaching bug and completed my PGCE/QTS in 2019.I have a wide range of experience in PR and journalism and have been lucky enough to enjoy an unashamedly eclectic career. I began my career working as a special adviser for former President of the European Commission, Jacques Delors, at his Paris-based think-tank, Notre Europe.I then became Senior Press Officer for the Liberal Democrats dealing directly with national newspaper political editors and broadcasters. After the 2001 General Election I spent five years working as Senior Producer for BBC Radio 4’s flagship live news programmes - WATO, PM , The World This Weekend and BH through the Iraq war, Hutton Enquiry and 7/7 bombings. In 2007 I moved to the Peak District to work on documentaries for the award-winning independent production company, All Out in Manchester. There I produced the investigative 5 live Report as well as documentaries for The World Service and Radio 1.In 2009 I set up my own business, Peak Princess, designing and hand-making Liberty print childrenswear which gained widespread coverage including Sunday Times Style & BBC Breakfast TV. Style called her girls’ range ‘achingly cool’.Off the back of my homegrown success, I was asked to promote the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, the Cliffhanger Outdoors Festival, Cycle to the Cinema for Heason Events. Matt Heason and then co-founded the Buxton Adventure Festival. I also promoted Europe's biggest adventure film tour, the European Outdoor Film Tour, for 3 years.I also did PR for the Community Sports Trust promoting grassroots sports and the Rural Derbyshire School Sports Partnership for several years. I've been passionate about social media ever since launching BBC Radio 4’s PM blog with Eddie Mair which won the 2007 Sony Gold Interactive award.

Our approach proves you can create a demand for exercise and that – with support - sedentary people can change their behaviour. Our mantra is making activity sustainable and affordable: We break down the barriers that stand in the way of neighbourhoods doing regular activity - fear and embarrassment; lack of confidence and motivation; the cost of sessions; travel and childcare. Our method is facilitating not delivering: We talk to local people, listening to what they want, bringing communities together. With long backgrounds in PR, advertising and sales promotions agencies, public sector organisations and blue chip clients, as well as journalism and training behind us, we provide a comprehensive portfolio of marketing and communications services to clients nationwide.Born out of frustration as much as ambition: able communications was set up to do away with impersonal and expensive consultancy support. We were frustrated with yes men and narrow-minded suppliers thinking they had all the answers and embarrassed by pretty campaigns that failed to deliver tangible benefits. Guided, naturally, by the desire to do things right, we are also passionate about doing the right things for our clients. And we all share the belief that success comes from being the best, not the biggest.Helping to enhance and defend the reputations and fortunes of clients in sectors as diverse as the automotive industry, retailing, business services, brewing, finance, construction, consumer electronics, education, health, sports marketing and tourism, we have grown steadily through word of mouth recommendations. In the process, we have built a solid reputation for reliability, producing creative solutions within carefully planned strategic frameworks. And all for a realistic price.Over the last few years we have supported the likes of HSBC, T-Mobile, engage Mutual Assurance, 3 Rivers Brewery, Harmony House, Blue Star Sport, Premex Group, MPW, the Communication Workers’ Friendly Society, the Hindu Forum of Britain, AquaCity, Nissan GB, Operation Black Vote, ODL Securities, Horizon Airways, e-SAN, GE Commercial Finance, Cirrus Diamonds, Water World, and BMW/Mini as well as a raft of smaller SMEs and start up ventures.
