This skills that I use during my daily work is determining the best time to perform a task. Looking at the strategic goals of the organization and determining if the task is moving the organization toward the goals. Looking at projects that are being introduced for improvements and asking how does this project move the organization towards the strategic goals. determining the current workload of the team and being fair to all team members and divide the project up into smaller chunks and working on those and move towards the big picture of the improvement project. Working with teams on improvement using the methodologies for Lean (Black belt Certified in the Veteran Health Administration) and walking the team through 9 tasks for the project which include 1. Reason for action; 2. Current state; 3. Future state; 4. Gap analysis; 5. Solutions approach; 6. Rapid experiments; 7. Completion plan; 8. Confirmed state and 9. Insights. Using tools such as the fishbone or 5-Whys in gap analysis and doing Gemba walks to see the process in action. Does on the spot training for teams as they work through the improvement process. Creating charters for projects and closeout documents for documentation of the beginning and the end of the deliverables for the projects. Does trainings with groups to provide certifications of Lean Yellow, Green and Black belts as well as training for leaders on how to encourage staff to do continual process improvement.Some major projects that I worked with teams on is ED admissions times, Extended Recovery clinic creation and implementation, and Increasing screening for patients with chirosis.
