Liv Torc is a spoken word artist, project maker and change maker with a big vision and a proven record of delivering innovative creative communications projects with a global reach and tangible real world impact. She has worked with LSE, Met Office, SAP and the United Nations, using the power of poetry to communicate vital messages about climate change action to the public and corporate sectors. Liv is also the creator of the Haiflu, a UK wide poetry, photography and film project that uses crowdsourced haiku and images to tell the social history of life under lockdown. Haiflu reached an international audience and over 10,000 participants and 50,000 viewers... It has been featured in The Times, The Sunday Times and Mslexia magazine and aired on the BBC’s Radio 4 Today programme. In 2021 Liv received funding from the Arts Council to turn Haiflu Ever After into a touring show and online archive.In 2021 Liv (along with partner organisation Tongue Fu) was awarded funding from the Arts Council to deliver a COP26 Climate Change poetry, science and film project Hot Poets, working with 12 high profile poets and 12 organisations at ground zero of climate change, including the London School of Economics and the Met Office. Through Hot Poets Liv was invited to attend COP26 and performed on the United Nations Resilience Pavilion, along with fellow Hot Poets Artistic Director Chris Redmond. A Radio 4 Slam Winner, a former Bard of Exeter, host of the Rainbow Fish Speakeasy and current co-host of the Hip Yak Poetry Shack. Liv is lead artist in Take Art’s long running social prescribing and poetry project Word/Play. She also runs the spoken word stage at WOMAD. In 2019 her climate change in-the-face-of-motherhood poem The Human Emergency went viral across the world. She performed at Glastonbury Festival on the Poetry and Words stage and represented Somerset for the BBC’s National Poetry Day celebrations. In 2020 she was chosen as one of four Siren Poets by Cape Farewell for a commission on climate change in the time of COVID. She also wrote and filmed a poem for the BBC’s Make a Difference campaign.Liv is currently creative parter on a £200,000 research project with Lincolnshire University, called a ‘A Socially Distanced Room of Her Own’ – looking at the effects of lockdown on women’s careers.Her first published book ‘Show Me Life’ was released in 2015 by Burning Eye. Her second ‘The Human Emergency’ came out in August 2021 and explores themes of climate change, COVID and her own health journey. She is also the proud author of children’s book ‘Banana Poems’.
