I have a background in international emergency response having been deployed across fragile, conflict, violence (FCV) and natural disaster affected environments. My expertise and deep interest in data security and AI, stems from this first-hand experience of these complex and rapidly changing contexts and in particular from deployments to the Middle East, Asia and Africa, where I led specialist teams to gather and interpret sensitive information. My personal experience of these domains led me to being awarded a fully funded Ph.D scholarship to American University in Washington D.C. where I conducted original research related to the information and cyber security protocols and practices of organizations and their agents operating on the humanitarian frontline. I currently work with Defence Primes, government departments and academic institutions to harness data and leverage AI to provide insight on large global questions as well as explore niche topics under multiple Defence Frameworks. I lead defence teams on projects relating to data and AI, information and culture, strategic analysis, threat intelligence, cyber vulnerability management, network analysis and achieve client objectives using proven social science techniques and research methods. I have sat on Expert Judgement Panels within specialized Defence communities, contributed to activities on projects such as Cyber Flashpoints whilst a Fellow at the Internet Governance Lab in Washington D.C (2018) and conducted research for the US Department of State, which explored the cyber risk attitudes of large international funders. My own experience and research has provided opportunities for me to generate numerous academic publications such as to UNOCHA (2023) in relation to the field of information security and identify policy versus practice, and human-machine behaviours across the threat landscape. I have also provided my professional opinion to media outlets such as Devex, The New Humanitarian, Bramble Hub and shared my insights at events hosted by the Institute of Cyber Security for Society (iCSS) at the University of Kent (2023), the British Psychological Association’s Defence and Security Conference (2023), the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Cybersecurity (2022), the Royal Geographic Society (2021) and others. I enjoy leveraging my technical and practical background, identifying the points at which seemingly disparate fields connect and to effectively coordinate, collaborate, and communicate with diverse stakeholder groups to advance mutual objectives.
