I’ve been at the Independent Bar for two years and signed the Bar Roll in 2022 where I was awarded the Lindy Powell QC, most accomplished Bar Reader for 2021.I started as a solicitor at the Crown Solicitor's Office in 2000 in the Native Title Section. From Mid 2005 to approximately Mid 2007, I was the instructing solicitor for the State Government during the Wangary Bushfire Inquest. This was gruelling but I was able to watch over 10 barristers on their feet during 18 months of sitting time. During this Inquest I developed keen skills of briefing experts, gathering evidence, summarising huge volumes of evidence and client relations in a very stressful environment. I then worked on the multimillion dollar personal injury and property class actions relevant to the Wangary fire. During this time I gained the skills of conducting a large and complex matter, including trial strategies, deconstructing pleadings and drafting complex defences. I then ran a high level practice of workers compensation, medical negligence, asbestos exposure, general litigation, Coronial Inquests and commercial matters. I increased my counsel work which usually involved representing multiple government Agencies and individual staff members. I have also undertaken the counsel work in many mediations and settlement conferences.I was the instructing solicitor in a high profile Coronial Inquiry involving a successful appeal to the Full Supreme Court which set a precedent across Australia involving the de-identification of high level police officers. I pride myself in my client relations. I am very approachable and am able to explain difficult concepts clearly to clients. My people skills also transfer well to proofing, examining and cross examining witnesses. Since being at the Independent Bar I have worked on a large class action, insurance claims, workers compensation matters and the high profile Inquest into the death of Zhane Chillcot.
