Adjunct Professor of Law for the Entrepreneurship Clinic, which provides transactional legal services targeting high technology business startups and other emerging growth companies. School of Law interns, under the direction of an experienced attorney, will provide counsel to a select number of clients. Interns will receive training in the key legal services needed by entrepreneurs, including structuring the business entity, financing regulations, drafting of investment and employment agreements, and protection of intellectual property.

Developed new, first of its kind, ABA-approved law capstone and teaching Fall2022. Students learn real-life legal and business skills to launch their company by adopting a Black-owned, Latinx-owned, or Women-owned Ycombinator start-up. The class finale is a shark-tank like pitch on campus open to the public. Capstone: Entrepreneurship and The Law (4 credits).Becoming an entrepreneur or a legal advisor to entrepreneurs requires unique legal expertise. The course culminates in the creation of a “Capstone Company” business plan, legal dossier, and pitch deck that students present in class. This course surveys prior course learnings, including: Interview & Negotiation, Contracts, Corporations, and a variety of intellectual property rights, including: patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. In the course, students apply each of these learnings to an existing company, as well as to the “Capstone Company” they select. The course provides students a better understanding of how entrepreneurs innovate and how and what they need to go from an idea/concept to building a company, or to a career advising those who build companies.

ViaCyte was acquired by Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX) for 320M USD in 2022 including all IP assets. Liz lead the legal and IP team for all licensing transactions and intellectual property, and was instrumental in the execution of corporate partnerships, licensing contracts, and other key business alliances. As Diversity & Inclusion Officer (since 2020), developing a Culture Club that created company programming based on company talent, experience and knowledge to help create a more equitable work place for all employees, including making a Martin Luther King day a company holiday and providing employees Volunteer Time Off (VTO).
