I reported directly to the Chairman of the Department of Surgery who later served as President of the ASBMS. Duties included, but were not limited to, clinical evaluation/assessment, pre and post-op patient education, scheduling of pre-op testing, insurance prior approvals, scheduling of surgery, education of surgery residents and nursing staff re: research protocols. Patient in-hospital rounds with surgeons/residents, discharge teaching, long term post-op clinical assessments and wound care independent of surgeons. In addition, I managed all support staff for the research project including a medical records administrator, two RNs, computer data analyst, and secretary. Oversaw drug studies and monitored protocol adherence. Assisted with articles and meeting presentations for ASMBS and other obesity related organizations. I attended meetings in U.S., Canada and Italy in order to assist with the presentation of papers on behalf of the project. -

I supervised 10-12 RNs/LPNs and provided in-service education including CPR training, STDs, and other relevant health care issues to students, staff and faculty. Additionally, I chaired the committee responsible for development of policies and procedures for the Health Service. Assisted with hiring and scheduling of RN/LPN staff.
