I worked with students attending the Hack Reactor Software Bootcamp and the Galvanize Data Science Program. While students learned the tech skills needed for these jobs, I supplemented their education by lecturing weekly on topics that would help them to hit the ground running once they began their job search. These included building new tech-focused resumes, building up their presence on LinkedIn to expand their network, and how to ace behavioral based interviews.Post-graduation I met with grads on a weekly basis to provide them coaching as they battled the hardships of the job search. The job search is brutal and can be demoralizing at times. It is essentially a bunch of "No's" with a few small "Yes'" (phone screens, tech assessments, etc.) along the way until they get the ultimate Yes with a job offer. Many of my conversations were centered around checking in on their morale and boosting their confidence by giving them deliverables each week that they could accomplish. The courage, grit and dedication these individuals had to quit full-time jobs, pivot careers and endure months of grueling work inspired and motivated me every day.
