I completed my engineering Internship at Rolls-Royce Plc. I was placed in the Engineering Quality team in the Innovation Hub. This team had the oversight of the whole company so the problems that the team faces are diverse. This provided an excellent experience where I worked on projects in Submarines, Civil Aviation and the Innovation Hub (E-Fan X project).Whilst completing these many projects I used the experience to my full advantage by shadowing other engineers. I found Operations and Manufacturing engineering particularly interesting. Whilst there, I also found an opportunity to complete my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, working on a project which mapped the engine lifecycle from initial concept to retirement, highlighting where the major bottlenecks emerged. This allowed me to develop my communication skills considerably, having to use my initiative to go out and find the necessary stakeholders from across the company.In my spare time, I was also heavily involved in PRISM, the Rolls-Royce LGBT+ Employee Resource Group and ended up joining the committee from Christmas. Through this I helped to organise many events across Rolls-Royce and joint events with other company networks. This cumulated for me with organising the Moor Lane International Day Against Homophobia Biphobia and Transphobia, which had workshops and talks throughout the day which over 1000 people voluntarily attended. Prism was awarded the Rolls-Royce Excellence award for making a difference within the company at the end of the year.Having completed a fantastic year, I have been shortlisted for the Engineering Student of the Year Award (Postponed due to Covid-19).
