Liz Pugh, Creative Producer and co-founder of Walk the Plank, one of the UK's leading outdoor arts companies, making art in public space and creating civic celebration in UK and internationally since 1992. Creative Leadership, Place-making, festival management, and spectacular site-responsive performance. Adviser for IETM - the international contemporary performing arts network based in Europe; and board member for Xtrax Arts, supporting UK outdoor arts. After setting up the UK’s first touring theatre ship, Liz has made work with diverse communities in public space – from large scale civic celebrations and parades to memorable outdoor performances. Artistic director for Midsummer Mischief (Bodø2024); Opening of Pafos: EU Capital of Culture 2017; Grimsby’s Festival of the Sea (2021/22) Hull Freedom Festival (2013-15); and Creative Producer of Manchester Day Parade (2010-22) – all platforms which offer opportunity for meaningful exchange between artists and new audiences. Work with British Council in West Africa, Hong Kong, Caribbean, and Ukraine - delivering Festival Management training to the next generation of festival directors, and supporting independent artists and producers to grow their ambition and their festivals. Liz designed and developed two European outdoor arts training programmes supported by Creative Europe, School of Participation (2019-21), School of Spectacle (2017-19), working with 9 partner countries: Bulgaria, Lithuania, Ireland, Cyprus, Austria, Serbia, Estonia, Hungary, UK. Walk the Plank’s recent work, Green Space Dark Skies, invited thousands of people to animate wild places with light, captured through a series of films, and broadcast via BBC Countryfile, and BBC Wales. Liz was Country Producer (Wales) and supported the participation, learning and marcomms teams across the whole project.
